MOF 019: Chim

Recorded the day after the bands gig at Band On The Wall, July’s podcast sees a slightly hungover Chim, aka James Fieldsend, aka the black heart of Mind On Fire working his way through some of his favourite records. Known to wield his axe with intent in the band his selections do lean towards more guitar based tunes although there are few surprises in the 55 minutes. Enjoy

June’s installment of the MOF Band Podcast takeover sees us in the always reliable hands of the bands singer Martin Connor. Recently described as combining “the tenderness of Curtis Mayfield and the strength of James Brown” in his performances with the band he today gives his vocal chords a rest to pick a sweet selection of Reggae and Soul, perfect for any summers day.

Following on from his last mix as Erik XVI, European Man turns out a beautiful mix called “A Slow Drift Across the Intercontinental Dawn”. It sounds just like that too. Absolutely lovely stuff.

MOF 016: Nat Birchall Jazz Mix

The second mix focuses more on some of Nat’s more Jazz orientated inspirations although it is by no means exclusively Jazz, taking in tracks from Count Ossie and Cymande too.

MOF014: Slave 1

The second installment of our April podcasts comes from MOF band guitarist David Slavin, aka SLAVE 1. Clocking in at just under an hour this mix takes in sounds as diverse as Sonic Youth, Flying Lotus and Frank Zappa as well as the Kings Tubby and Crimson. There is also a solo production from the man sandwiched in between a Prefuse 73 and a Ras G tune so listen carefully.

MOF013: Zoir

After a quiet month in March on the podcast front MOF Band member Ben Gretton aka Zoir kicks off what is going to be a double installment of podcasts for April. Zoir is known for his own solo productions which are available at http://www.mindonfire.co.uk/artist-page-zoir.html and when turning out for the band he plays the bass and controls the desk and electronics. This podcast features no talking but it does feature 45 minutes of crisp beats, hip hop and more sparse dubby minimalism but they are all lazy labels so just listen for yourself.
