Some Spotify adverts are making me crazy
I adore Spotify, and if you live in the UK and aren’t using either it or last.fm then you must either hate music, be crazy rich or be some kind of very enthusiastic pirate.
And if you’re this latter then can I suggest you need to reply to this government consultation immediately as once again they’re trying to get filesharers kicked off the internet.
Anyway. I digress.
Spotify is free because it carries adverts. Because it is a “cool” service, many of the ads are also “cool”, and so we are frequently treated to some poor fuckers being forced to badly promote their own shite by their record label, or some clip of some chart-fondling grotbag like Kelly Clarkson that proves Spotify’s efforts to tailor adverts to people’s musical tastes is not working.
But the real stinker is the currently-running advert for environmentalists Do The Green Thing › Continue reading
8 bit lego goodness
I was going to do a great big old update about new stuff out on 8 bit peoples and other chiptune malarky, but then I came across this and kind of had my 8-bit lust pre-empted and fully satisfied.
Mmm.
Excuse me while I nip to the bathroom.

Alive in Joburg – District 9 Original Short Film
I am about a week late with this, seeing as the film was out last Thursday, but I was far too busy sunning myself in Italy to worry about some serious “issue” movie about South African refugees. Or so I thought.
Actually these refugees are enormous tentacled aliens and District 9 is more of a vaguely intelligent sci-fi summer blockbuster, so I should’ve paid attention as I love summer sci-fi blockbusters. Except the Transformers movies. They’re fucking shite.
Um, anyway, above is the short film that inspired Peter Jackson of LOTR and Braindead fame to back Neill Blomkamp to make the full movie. Woop woop!
Making Techno With Just A Web Page!
I’m sure, not long ago, people needed banks and banks of expensive machines to make electronic music. Then it was just a PC with some pricey software. Now what do you need? Just go to the Hobnox AudioTool site! On any computer! This thing twists my mind every time I see it. It’s all written in Flash, which normally powers stuff like YouTube and those fucking smiley adverts. Here though, someone’s made it emulate the classic instruments for making techno. Quite how, I don’t know. Fucking witchcraft. All you need to know is that this is a MUCH better way to waste time on the interent than checking status updates on Facebook. So put the crackpipe down logout and get twiddling
What the shit? Major Lazer’s Pon De Floor
This video for Major Lazer ft Vybz Kartel – Pon de floor elicits one reaction above all others: WHAT THE SHIT?
It’s basically a cross between daggerin and a mad acid trip, and it is the easily the weirdest thing I’ve seen all week.
