NOMAD027: Redub Redoubles The Dubulation

Up until November 2008 the ReDub DJs had been guilty of perpetrating netcasts of their tasty blend of breakbeat and dubstep on a fortnightly basis. You’ve already met Watoo and Unbalanced Jack at NOMAD025: Watoo & Unbalanced Jack: Watoo invented ReDub, and U-J started the netcasting off.

Since November 08 the pace has doubled, twice-fold…and a bit. The netcasting is now weekly plus ReDub now has four resident DJs – Watoo, Unbalanced Jack, Meganesh and Cache.

Music policy has also shifted twice: the net radio shows are now predominantly broadcast live; and the overall vibe has rather inexorably focused towards the dubstep spectrum. That’s not surprising, given the genre’s rich palette of sounds and vibrant percussion. The recent addition of samplist Papa Roc brings a touch of the dancehall to the recipe with a sound effect there and a siren there…

What we’ve got for you this time is a ReDub Radio Show outside that mould as it was pre-recorded for once, and unbroadcast as I write this.

As the recording happened on a Sunday there will inevitably be a Sunday feel to the proceedings.ReDub Radio’s actual broadcasting slot is of a Tuesday evening. Tuesday’s got a whole different soul to it than a Sunday afternoon, you know what I mean.
