I’ve been trying to work out what I loved best about the Oregon Trail, which can now be played online in its original glory.

Was it the hunting mini-game, which was even slightly rubbish back in the mid 1980s? Was it the realistic portrayal of 19th Century pioneer spirit? Was it the attempt to educate you in American history as you played?
