Some Spotify adverts are making me crazy
I adore Spotify, and if you live in the UK and aren’t using either it or last.fm then you must either hate music, be crazy rich or be some kind of very enthusiastic pirate.
And if you’re this latter then can I suggest you need to reply to this government consultation immediately as once again they’re trying to get filesharers kicked off the internet.
Anyway. I digress.
Spotify is free because it carries adverts. Because it is a “cool” service, many of the ads are also “cool”, and so we are frequently treated to some poor fuckers being forced to badly promote their own shite by their record label, or some clip of some chart-fondling grotbag like Kelly Clarkson that proves Spotify’s efforts to tailor adverts to people’s musical tastes is not working.
But the real stinker is the currently-running advert for environmentalists Do The Green Thing, who for the last week have been running an advert for two cartoons of Kate Moss that are meant to promote green living. The problem is not the product, though I personally doubt that it will have any long-term effect on anyone. The problem is the fucking horrible twat who does the voiceover in a patronising sneer that finishes withh the execrable line “Be warned – this video may contain a point of view.”
What. A. Cunt. It makes me want to go out and wastefully consume just to spite them.
I don’t disagree with advertising in principle. I’m just really fed up with having to listen to this shit every 20 minutes. So why not pay for the advert-free service? Well, I love Spotify, but I won’t pay for it until they fix three things:
1) It can tell the difference between similarly-named but very different bands, like Knife and The Knife.
2) It has more of artists’ earlier albums on it. For example, some Sneaker Pimps songs that were made when the lovely Kelli Ali still sung for them rather than that cunt Chris Corner, who seems to me to have stepped straight from Nathan Barley.
3) It has more independent music available. And The Crocketts, damnit!
In the meantime, I just wish I had the technical expertise to mute Spotify’s adverts.
