NOMAD039: Erik XVI – Stories from the Dystopian Border

Erik XVI treats us to a deeply atmospheric two hours this week. From dense soundscapes, through layers of complex techno and electronica, ending up in hard, broken beats, this is an excellent mix. Happily, it also coincides with the release of his new EP on Highpoint Lowlife recordings. You’d better go and buy it hadn’t you? It’s only 3 quid for the download. Can’t say fairer than that! I’ve got it. It’s fucking mint. Track list after the jump.

Making Techno With Just A Web Page!
I’m sure, not long ago, people needed banks and banks of expensive machines to make electronic music. Then it was just a PC with some pricey software. Now what do you need? Just go to the Hobnox AudioTool site! On any computer! This thing twists my mind every time I see it. It’s all written in Flash, which normally powers stuff like YouTube and those fucking smiley adverts. Here though, someone’s made it emulate the classic instruments for making techno. Quite how, I don’t know. Fucking witchcraft. All you need to know is that this is a MUCH better way to waste time on the interent than checking status updates on Facebook. So put the crackpipe down logout and get twiddling
NOMAD018: Techno
This week it’s a techno sound, brought to your loving ears by DJ Ben from next door. Not so much your big room bangers, though there are a fair few bangs- sounds like the Surgeon, the mental/ly skilled Mark Hawkins, also Reekos Spanish drum-loops vibe, and a timely cautionary tale by the boys from U.R. In the enormous tune Crackzilla. Ben cut his teeth on the Technival circuit years ago,and listen out for his breaks and electro sounds down the line.

NOMAD011: Testrack
Testrack (myself) drops a live techno set from a laptop on Ableton – the most badboy music software around
It’s been a while since I put a show up on here and that’s partly because I’ve been busy chopping the sickest loops I could find to mangle into mixes like this one… It’s a kinda german minimal / acid / nasty fucking hard stuff / detroit kinda thing. I think. I don’t even know about all this genre bollocks any more.

NOMAD002: Dub, Reggae and Techno
Kane (myself) plays a few dub and reggae tunes, a bit of dubstep, then some more techno style stuff from the likes of Modeselektor…then I realize I can’t mix for shit, so go back to triphop and downtempo
